Stuck on Tertiary Colors

September 13, 2013

I like using the tertiary palette and keep going with it.  The 30 day challenge keeps me painting, too.

Here is today's painting.  I did stray a little from the strict tertiary palette to create the neutral background because the white of the paint tube in the painting needed contrast.  There is so little color in the painting.  I had to use warms in the flat surface and cool in the white of the tube to get contrast and, wow, was that tube every difficult for me to draw, a lot of foreshortening.  I'm not sure if it worked.

Pinterest - I have been working on several boards on pinterest related to color, composition and art tips.  There is a link to them on the top right column of this page.

  1. Beautiful paintings on your blog. Have fun with the 30 in 30.

  2. Carol, I really like this painting. Everything works so well. Background color against your beautiful yellow-orange of the bottle is great. I love how the yellow reflects on the table. You did a good job saying just enough so we know what it is.

    1. Katia, thank you so much. It been interesting to stick with this palette. Today I branched out to the primaries again. You are doing so well with the plein air paintings. I like them a lot.

  3. I think your foreshortening is very well done. And your palette is always beautiful!
