Daily Paintworks Challenge

Happy July 4th!


The Daily Paintworks Challenge was to paint a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich, something I have wanted to try for quite awhile so this pushed me to do something new.   I think it would be a good idea to do a number of these and, hopefully keep improving.

I chose blue for my background because it made me think of July 4th so it is a patriotic painting of a PB and J.   I did the reflections to give it a little more interest.  My set-up has a piece of Plexiglas if I want to use it.

I started a board on pinterest for Pbj paintings.  I thought it would make me continue with this subject and work on values plus come up with more ways of setting up the still life. 

Daily Paintworks Challenge and 30 Day Challenge

I haven't done that well with the 30 day challenge, more like the 10 day challenge, but this painting covers two challenges, both 30 and dpw and that must count for something. 

My own challenge is concentrating on abstract shapes and values.  The paintings I am happiest with always include that approach.

This is one that I painted awhile ago, but I have always liked it because of the abstract quality, editing out detail.   I'm gradually adding all my paintings to ETSY

Challenge at Daily Paintworks

I remembered to do the challenge on Daily Paintworks.  It turned out to be harder than I thought.  I spent most of my time trying to get the eye right.  Once I got the darks in, it turned out all right.
I decided to stick with the tertiary colors doing this one, a favorite color scheme of mine, used even to make the black.  I just used the three colors magenta, blue-green and yellow-orange.  (more about that on earlier blogs)

30 day Challenge

Today I thought I would try the challenge on Daily Paintworks.  It's a great place to get ideas of subjects to paint and a way to challenge yourself. 

Here is my effort, trying to keep loose brushwork and using what I learned from Quang Ho's dvd about painting the light and tonal painting as an approach.   I was also thinking about what I learned from the dvd about figure painting.
